When closer monitoring is useful
Patients are often referred, or ask to be seen, after a previous miscarriage or preterm birth, with twins, with diabetes or blood-pressure concerns, after fertility treatment, at a later maternal age, or when this pregnancy already shows bleeding, poor growth, or an abnormal scan. Existing conditions such as thyroid disease, anaemia, or previous caesarean birth can also change how often we review you.
How antenatal follow-up differs
Visits may be more frequent. We review blood pressure, baby’s growth, your symptoms, and test results in more detail, and we discuss warning signs that should bring you back sooner. The aim is early detection and a practical plan you understand—nutrition, medicines that are safe in pregnancy, rest, and when hospital review is the safer next step.
